BRAHM Open Saturday with Graves Signing
Staff Report. November 22, 2011. BLOWING ROCK – The Blowing Rock Art and History Museum (BRAHM) will be closed Thanksgiving Day and Friday, but will be open Saturday and Sunday for its regular hours. With Saturday’s Thanksgiving Parade route ending at the intersection of Main and Chestnut, the Museum’s galleries will offer a warm respite for the crowd.
Local children’s author Jonathan Graves will be available for signing copies of his children’s book, Isabella Propeller and the Magic Beanie in the Museum lobby on Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon. Graves was inspired to write Isabella Propeller, which is illustrated by local Caldecott Medal-winning artist Gail Haley, for his grandchildren. It follows the adventures of a young lady who explores Blowing Rock during a visit with her grandparents, learning about life in the process. The book is available for purchase at the BRAHM Gift Shop.
To round out the holiday weekend, BRAHM will celebrate the season of giving with its first “Lighting the Way for Others at BRAHM.” Guests can “purchase” a decorative light cover for its contemporary trees in the Museum’s lobby, which will be lit Sunday afternoon. Lights will be $10 each and will allow admission to the Museum. BRAHM will donate a portion of its proceeds from the day to the Hospitality House of Boone, which provides temporary housing and meals for the region’s homeless.
For more information, visit www.blowingrockmuseum.org or call (828) 295-9099. The Museum’s regular hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and 1-5 p.m. on Sunday.
