Staff Report. January 31, 2012. BLOWING ROCK -- Blowing Rock News is pleased to share a calendar of upcoming events and activities at BRAHM, the Blowing Rock Art & History Museum.
Tickets Still Available for Woody Durham’s Talk at BRAHM
A few tickets are still available to see the “Voice of the Tar Heels” Woody Durham speak at the Blowing Rock Art and History Museum on February 16th.
Durham will share some of his “Stories Along the Way,” accumulated over his 40-year tenure as the play-by-play radio announcer for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels.
Admission to the event is $20, which includes hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and Durham’s talk. Raffle tickets for a UNC goody basket will be available. Seating is limited; individuals interested in reserving a seat may call (828) 295-9099 ext. 3001 (prepayment required). The event is being partially underwritten by the di Santi Watson Capua & Wilson law firm; Adam Hill, DDS; Jim Tanner; Mix 102.3 WECR-FM; and a friend of the Museum.
Museum Tours Offered on Weekends
The Blowing Rock Art and History Museum now offers special guided tours of its three exhibits on the weekends. The tours, which will be led by Gallery Guides on Saturdays at 11 a.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m., are available at no additional cost (general admission is $8 for adults and $5 for children 5+ and students). Snow Day Camps Fun, Educational Option
In addition to its “School’s Out!” Mini-Camps, the Blowing Rock Art and History Museum now offers Snow Day Camps from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on days Watauga County schools are closed due to inclement weather.
Camps will be announced on the BRAHM website (www.blowingrockmuseum.org) once Watauga County schools are cancelled. Each camp will offer 20 openings on a first-come-first-served basis. Parents must call the Education Office once camps have been announced to reserve a spot.
Camps will be facilitated by two adults and one volunteer from Appalachian State University and will include fun, educational art and history activities as well as time for outdoor recreation, if possible (children should bring appropriate outer layers).
Cost for each camp is $30 per child for the general public and $25 for members. All materials and an afternoon snack are provided (children should bring a packed lunch). Enjoy Yoga in a Beautiful Setting at BRAHM
The Blowing Rock Art and History Museum will continue its Thursday morning yoga (9:30-10:30 a.m.) classes through February. Each class – held in the Community Meeting Room – is $12 ($10 for members). Participants should wear comfortable, loose clothing and bring a yoga mat. Each class will be taught by one of three certified Yoga instructors.
