SNAPSHOT: Yount Rally Draws Enthusiastic Crowd of Supporters

By David Rogers. November 3, 2011. BLOWING ROCK -- There were no speeches, but a great two hours of fun and fellowship Thursday night at Papa Joe's Restaurant, in support of Albert Yount's re-election campaign for Blowing Rock Town Commissioner.

While the candidate did not make any speeches, the occasion was not just a party.  Yount was observed by Blowing Rock News to be in frequent discussion about various town issues with several of the attendees, including other candidates for elected office (Phil Pickett and family, J.B. Lawrence and wife, Lynn), current Commissioners (Pickett and Yount, along with Jim Steele), and former Town Council members (Bobby Ball and husband George, Terry Lentz and family, and David Wray). Other notables in attendance included former NC House Representative Cullie Tarleton, and wife Sylvia.

An estimated 75 people filtered through the event over the course of the two hours.  They enjoyed chicken wings and pizza prepared by Papa Joe's, wine and beer, and music by members of the "Smokey Breeze" band led by Rhett Huffman, featured pianist/organist at Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church.

In an interview, Yount told Blowing Rock News, "It is gratifying to have the warm support of so many Blowing Rock residents sharing my belief that our government must find and maintain a balance between the various constituent interests of the town.  Tonight we saw so many of those interests represented. Longtime residents as well as recently arrived residents. Business folks in the same room with elected officials.  I said this Tuesday night at the Candidates Forum, but the most important thing is that we create an environment of constructive dialogue in our government and a positive, proactive approach to resolving problems and any differences that we might have.  Blowing Rock has so many wonderful people living here, with many incredible talents.  If we simply work together, we can accomplish great things. No challenge is insurmountable."
