The Town of Blowing Rock Board of Commissioners will attend a Speaker’s Local Leaders Roundtable luncheon with (NC House) Speaker Thom Tillis on Monday, November 14, 2011 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. The invitation only event will be held at Paolucci’s Italian Bar & Grill on West King Street, Boone NC.

Read more...October 19, 2010.  BLOWING ROCK -- On October 12th and 14th,  Blowing Rock News attended the "Meet the Candidates" forum hosted by the Boone Chamber of Commerce.  We have already presented the candidates for NC State Senate and Clerk of Court.  This edition of DECISION 2010 presents the candidates for the 93rd District of the North Carolina House of Representatives, for which the incumbent is Democrat Cullie Tarleton and the Republican challenger, Jonathan Jordan.

Read more...October 12, 2010. BOONE -- At the end of March 2009, longtime County Clerk Glenn Hodges retired after taking office in 1992.  Superior Court Judge James L. Baker appointed Wanda K. Howell, a Superior Court trial-court coordinator (and former deputy clerk under both Hodges and John T. Bingham) to complete Hodges term. The office of County Clerk is up for election in November 2010.  Blowing Rock News attended the Boone Chamber of Commerce "Meet the Candidates" forum, on Tuesday, Oct. 12, to learn more about the candidates.

Boone "Tea Party" To Host Conservative Candidates Forum, Oct. 19

October 6, 2010.  BOONE -- A Conservative Candidates Forum will give Watauga County residents a chance to hear position statements by candidates for Watauga County Sheriff, Watauga County School Board, Superior Court, County Commissioner, North Carolina House, North Carolina Senate and U.S. Senate.  Sponsored by the Boone "Tea Party", the forum will be offered on Tuesday,  October 19, 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm, at the High Country Home Builders Association, 755 Hwy. 105 Bypass.

The "Nos" Have It

September 1, 2010. BOONE -- In one of the most passionate referendums in recent memory, Watauga County overwhelmingly voted "no" to the proposed, 1/4 cent sales tax increase. The tax hike was intended to fund the construction of a new recreation center and eastern community center. With all precincts reporting, 4,428 voted "No" compared to 2,705 voting "Yes."
