DECISION 2012: Jordan Appears to Retain District 93 Seat Over Blowing Rock's Tarleton

BLOWING ROCK -- In one of the High Country's most hotly contested race, former NC House District 93 Representative Cullie Tarleton, of Blowing Rock) looks poised to have lost his bid to reclaim the seat he lost in 2010 to Republican Jonathan Jordan. The unofficial results show Jordan leading by 1,029 votes, with 36 of 37 precincts having reported.

PUBLIC NOTICE: Intergovernmental Meeting Thursday, Oct. 11

October 10, 2012. The Town of Blowing Rock will attend an Intergovernmental Meeting in conjunction with Watauga County, Appalachian State University, Town of Boone and Seven Devils on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. The meeting will take place at the ASU Athletic Center (Kidd Brewer Stadium) in Boone, NC.  The Watauga Comprehensive Transportation Plan and Consolidated Dispatch Services will be discussed.

King St., Boone.

VIDEO: Watauga Democrats' "Cash Mob" Has Big Local Impact

BOONE -- Shoppers spent approximately $2,000 on Saturday at Appalachian Antique Mall -- which has booths operated by both Democrats and Republicans -- during the Watauga Democratic Party-sponsored monthly "Cash Mob."  Later, the Mountain House was "mobbed" to the tune of 71 lunches.  The event series is to encourage High Country residents to "shop local."

BOONE -- Although Watauga County narrowly voted AGAINST Amendment One, the controversial marriage amendment passed in the statewide election with more than 61% of the vote. In the Republican presidential primary, Mitt Romney won in a landslide, with almost 66%  of the vote, while the November race for North Carolina Governor will be between Republican Pat McCrory and Democrat Walter Dalton.

February 29, 2012. The Town of Blowing Rock Board of Commissioners will attend an Intergovernmental Retreat scheduled for Monday, March 5, 2012 at 5:00 p.m.  Representatives from Watauga County, the Towns of Beech Mountain, Boone, and Seven Devils, as well as representatives from Appalachian State University will be in attendance.  The Retreat will be held on the campus of Appalachian State University at the Appalachian Athletic Center in the 5th floor lobby located at 425 Jack Branch Drive, Boone, NC. Topics of discussion will include local government finance, an update on the Watauga County Comprehensive Transportation Plan, and consolidated dispatch services.
