Memorial Day Service Scheduled at ASU Veterans' Memorial, May 27

Special Report to Blowing Rock News from University News Service. By Jane Nicholson. May 21, 2013. BOONE—Appalachian State University will hold a Memorial Day ceremony May 27 at 7:30 a.m. at the Veterans’ Memorial on the west side of the Dougherty Administration Building. The ceremony will honor thosewho died while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. The public is invited to attend.

Samaritan's Purse Disaster Teams Already Deploying, Sending Aid to Oklahoma

Special Report. May 20, 2013. BOONE, NC -- Disaster relief and rescue teams from Western North Carolina were already mobilizing Monday night, with international Christian relief organization Samaritan's Purse leading the way.  Late Monday night, a spokesperson with the Boone-based relief agency communicated to Blowing Rock News that teams will leave for storm-ravaged Oklahoma before dawn on Tuesday morning.

BLOWING ROCK, NC -- While wide-eyed kids of all ages will marvel at the antics of clowns and "gators" up and down Main Street the weekend of June 1st, children laid up in hospitals all around the country will benefit when hundreds of men with "flower pot" hats come to Blowing Rock for fun, ceremony and to promote charitable causes.

Boone Police to Participate in Annual Special Olympics "Torch Run"

Special Report. May 10, 2013. BOONE, NC -- The Boone Police Department will be participating in the annual Special Olympic Torch Run on May 16th, 2013. This is an event to raise awareness and funding for the North Carolina Special Olympics. The run will start at 10 a.m. at the Boone Police Department. The route will go through App State on Rivers Street and return to the Boone Police Department.
