Pegram Assumes President Role for Historical Society @ Annual Meeting
By David Rogers. August 7, 2011. BLOWING ROCK -- An estimated 100 members of the Blowing Rock Historical Society jammed the St. Mary's of the Hills Episcopal Church Fellowship Hall late Sunday afternoon, for the organization's 20th Annual Meeting.
President Ginny Stevens called the meeting to order and welcomed the group, followed by approval of the minutes from the 2010 meeting presented by Secretary Kitty Norris. Treasurer Bob Miller provided the annual financial report, including a year-ending cash balance of slightly more than $55,000.
Becky Smith, Chair of the Nominating Committee, introduced the names of six members for service on the Board of Directors for three-year terms ending 2014, including Barbara Ball, Marcia Quinn, Albert Yount, Cindy Kebelbeck, Bob Miller and Ted Treadwell. In addition, Lonnie Webster as recommended by the committe for the Class of 2013, to fill a vacancy.
The nominees as officers for the 2011-2012 club year included Doug Pegram, President; Marcia Quinn, Vice President; Kitty Norris, Secretary; and Lowell Thomas, Treasurer.
After Pegram addressed the group as the new President, pending election by the Board of Directors in a meeting to immediately follow the general members' session, Stevens and outgoing Director Ann Williams introduced seven artists who are exhibiting in the 2011 Artists in Residence series at Edgewood Cottage, a summer program of the Historical Society. The artists included Sandy Adair, Peggy Carlson, Gale Champion, Kate Colclaser, Doug Holstein, Bob Stevens, and Ineke Thomas.
Remaining Historical Society events and activities for calendar year 2011 include:
- September 17 - Chris J. Hartley, author of Stoneman's Raid, 1865: Talk, wine and cheese reception at the American Legion Hall
- November 6 - Board of Directors meeting
- November 13 - Hometown Harvest Supper IV for the Town, Emergency Services Building
- December 4 - Holiday Party, Green Park Inn
