or some, it was chance gain a head start on merit badges, pins and other advancements, but as much as anything it was a load of outdoor fun in the sun, and included what was described as "The World's Longest Slip 'n Slide", archery, a nature hike, BB's, crafts, and variouis sports.

Held July 28-30, the Camp activities concluded with a family BBQ and campfire.

Daniel Baird, a District Executive for Boy Scouts of America, Old Hickory Council, based in Winston-Salem, told Blowing Rock News that the Scouts are particularly thankful to Appalachian Ski Mountain for  making facilities available for the camp, and to Blowing Rock Fire & Rescue for helping run water for "the longest slip n' slide this county's ever seen!  We also need to thank St. Elizabeth of th Hill Country for their invaluable support, including the use of their bus."

Added Matthew Mellon, the Cub Scout Day Camp Director, "We had an incredible camp. The Lord provided good weather. The boys, the staff, and the parents had tons of fun.  the boys earned four sports belt loops, including volleyball, archery, BB's and kick ball.  Our Cub Scouts even earned their Whittlin' Chips for carving, made rope and candles, and are now looking forward to an incredible year of Cub Scouts.
