BLOWING ROCK -- Forty-five guests and approximately 15 serving volunteers crowded into the Community Club room at the Blowing Rock Library on Friday, for the 3rd annual Blowing Rock Community Club Bridge & Tea. "This is all put on by volunteers," said Community Club president Karen Clabough, "and almost all of our food, flowers and gifts are donated, so the money we raise from this event end up being net proceeds, and it all benefits the Library.

"The money we raise for the bridge and tea event is very important," continued Clabough. "Community Club is a non-profit that is focused on the library, which is self-supported.  We do not receive taxpayer funding of any kind.  So we do fundraisers like this event, as well as selling books and hot dogs during Art in the Park weekends. We are fortunate to have some very generous volunteers who donate a lot of things, such as today's food, the flowers, and the door prizes."

All of the money raised by the Community Club goes straight back into the library, Clabough told Blowing Rock News on Friday.  The library has one paid employee, the librarian Kathy Whatley, and everyone else is a volunteer.  Clabough indicated that memberships are renewed each September.
