Everyone Invited to Hear John Guest, July 11
By David Rogers. July 6, 2011. BLOWING ROCK -- When you cross Billy Graham, Oxford University, Pittsburgh, and a Christian rock band -- what else do you get but a John Guest?
Hosted by the Men's Connection Bible Study of Blowing Rock, men and women alike are invited to meet and hear Dr. John Guest, Monday, July 11, 2011, at 8:30 am, in the Evergreen Room at Chetola Mountain Resort in Blowing Rock.
The President of the John Guest Evangelistic Team for more than 20 years, Dr. Guest and his team have conducted city-wide crusades all over the United States, as well as in Albania, Romania, Cuba, Ukraine, Ghana, and West Africa. His ministry has reached in excess of 1.5 million people.
"We promise," declared Tucker Yates, one of seven Men's Connection organizers, to Blowing Rock News on Wednesday, "that you will hear an effective, articulate, and inspiring speaker in Dr. Guest. There is no fundraising or politics of any kind involved in this event. It is all about God and Jesus, and a gift from the Men's Connection group to the Blowing Rock community. If you are already a believer, come and have your beliefs reinforced. If you have questions about your religious beliefs, come and listen because you might be challenged to re-assess your sitting on the fence.
"John Guest has been called 'the thinking person's evangelist,'" Yates added. "He has a gift that combines brilliant apologetics with a powerful speaking style. We are extraordinarily fortunate to have this world-famous speaker share his wisdom and inspiration at this year's special annual Men's Connection event."
Dr. Guest was born in Oxford, England where, at the age of 18 while studying to be an engineer, attended a Billy Graham crusade and committed his life to the Lord Jesus Christ. A few years later, he was ordained and soon moved to the United States as part of the Christian rock band, "The Exkursions." He began is ministry in Pittsburgh some 40 years ago, dedicated to make the city "...as famous for God as it was for steel."
He served as Senior Pastor of St. Stephens Episcopal Church for over 20 years and of the Christ Church at Grove Farm for 15 year, both located in Sewickley, Pennsylvania.
He has been widely involved in Christian outreach, including as co-founder of Trinity School of Ministry (Pittsburgh). He was a participant in the Lausanne Committee on World Evangelism, and co-founded the South American Missionary Society. In addition, he was a founding leader of the Coalition for Christian Outreach.
Today, Dr. Guest is officially retired, but continues serving as Minister-at-Large with Christ Church at Grove Farm and of the Ocean Reef Community in the Florida Keys, while still speaking throughout the United States.
Guest has authored 10 books on the Christian lifestyle and is currently working on his memoirs.
The meeting is scheduled to last approximately 90 minutes. Continental breakfast will be served.
Regular meetings of the Men's Connection are held every Tuesday morning throughout the year at 7:30 am, in Chetola's Manor House. During the summer to early autumn months, the Bible study is led by Mr. Chip Cash, a director with Search Ministries in Charlotte. From the late autumn to late spring seasons, the study, discussion and fellowship is led by Mr. Bill Brettschneider, of Ashe County.
Anyone and everyone is invited to attend Monday's special event. Any questions may be directed to Mr. Dow Bauknight (828-295-3653), Mr. Reggie Bray (828-295-8780), Mr. Steady Cash (828-295-0404), Mr. Steve Joyce (828-295-0672), Mr. Coleman Ratterree (828-295-3528), Mr. Jim Steele (828-295-6540), or Mr. Tucker Yates (828-295-7936).
