Three Arrested in Early AM Break-In @ Old High School
Staff Report. February 15, 2012. BOONE -- Watauga County Sheriff Len Hagaman has issued the following information about a break-in at the old Watauga High School property.
Breaking and Entering
On February 15, 2012, at 1:13 AM, Watauga County Sheriff’s Office and Boone Police responded to 400 High School Drive in reference to individuals inside the old Watauga High School. Three individuals were located and transported to the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office. An investigation into the incident was conducted by the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. As a result of the investigation three individuals were charged. The following individuals were charged with Felony Breaking and Entering and Burning of a Public Building. The individuals were taken before a Watauga County Magistrate and given a secure bond in the amount of $25,000.00. Court dates were set for April 17, 2012.

- John Mitchum Leader, 1632 Otter Creek Road, Nashville, TN 37215, White/Male, Date of Birth: 4-5-1992
- Matthew Sylvan Redmond, 8116 Sommerwell Street, Raleigh, NC 27613, White/Male, Date of Birth: 12-20-1991
Based on the investigation the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation do not believe that this incident is related to the fire incident reported at the old Watauga County High School to Boone Police Department on February 14, 2012 at 4:31 PM. That incident is currently under investigation by the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
