Search for Dara Watson Called Off in SC After Yet Unidentified Body Found
A spokesperson for the Mt. Pleasant (SC) Police Department said the body was discovered Friday morning in the Francis Marion National Forest, near where her 2006 GMC Envoy sports utility vehicle was found last week.
According to reports from Charleston County, the coroner will be conducting an autopsy on the remains found on Friday, but there has not yet been a positive identification. Nonetheless, the search for Watson has officially been suspended, Blowing Rock News has learned.
Watson was reportedly last seen on February 6, when she left Boone with her fiance, David Hedrick, 34, who owned a bail bonds business in Charleston County. Police confirmed that Hedrick committed suicide a few hours after speaking with them about his fiance's disappearance, on Feb. 10. In the police interview, Hedrick reportedly told investigators that they had an argument and Watson had left their home. Her cell phone was recovered yesterday from a pond near the home she shared with Hedrick, in Mt. Pleasant. The SUV and yet unidentified body were found some 20 miles north of Charleston, in a remote area near Awendaw, SC, on the edge of Francis Marion National Forest.
