BLOWING ROCK, NC -- The threat of inclement wet weather and already rain-soaked grounds forced the kid-friendly games and activities inside on Saturday, but judging by the few hundred kids -- and their parents -- having fun at Blowing Rock School's "Spring Fling" you would never have known that it was planned for outside.

BLOWING ROCK -- Blowing Rock School's  "Spring Fling" scheduled for Saturday, May 4th (11:00 am to 4:00 pm), is still happening, in spite of recent inclement weather.  Organizer Stacey Gibson of the Blowing Rock School PTO emailed Blowing Rock News to advise members of the community that if the recreation field is too wet, the event will be moved indoors at the school

BLOWING ROCK -- When Private Gomer Pyle drawled out that now famous phrase on television, "Surrrprize, Surrprize, Surrprize!", Blowing Rock School 7th grader Parris Bolick was not even a figment of  her parents' imaginations, much less born. But she would be excused if those were the words she muttered to herself on Friday, during Mr. Flippen's science class.

BOONE -- The Bethel Elementary Blue team has won the elementary grades title and the Valle Crucis Elementary Red team has won the middle school championship in the Watauga County Schools Battle of the Books competitions for 2013.

April 10, 2013. BOONE -- The Watauga County Board of Education will meet in work session at 7:00 p.m. on April 15th at the Gragg Education Center. The purposes of the meeting are to discuss and plan for the Watauga County Schools budget for 2013-14 and to discuss and approve a field trip for 8th graders at Bethel Elementary.

BOONE— Providence Day School in Charlotte won first place and Grandview Middle School in Hickory won second place in the regional N.C. State High School Mathematics Contest held at Appalachian State University on Wednesday, March 20. The schools won in the algebra 1 and common core math 1 portion of the contest.

BOONE, NC -- For the fourth year in a row, a Watauga High School team has won first place in the management category of the Carolinas ProStart Invitational, an annual competition in culinary skills and food service management for high school students from North and South Carolina.

BOONE, NC -- Dr. David Kafitz' short, but volatile tenure as Watauga County Superintendent of Schools is apparently coming to an end.  A joint press release by Dr. Kafitz and te Watauga County Board of Education reports that the two parties have "mutally agreed to a buyout of his contract as Superintendent.

BLOWING ROCK -- Hardly noticeable because they are coming one-by-one, two-by-twos and three-by-threes, nearly 100 "shooting stars" are flashing through Blowing Rock Tuesday and Wednesday this week.  Actually, they are singing and dancing and clogging and strumming and flipping and drawing and painting and...and...and...(last year, yo-yoing!).

GREENSBORO, NC -- Thirteen students from Watauga High School’s Band and Orchestra program were selected for the Western Region Orchestra clinic held March 1-3 at UNC-Greensboro.  The WHS students were chosen by audition in January and were invited to participate in one of two orchestras comprised of the top players in the region.
