WCS Announces Public Forum for Superintendent Search

Staff Report. October 12, 2011. The Watauga Board of Education will hold a public forum on the search for a new superintendent of the Watauga County Schools on Monday, October 17th at Watauga High School.  The forum will begin at 6:30 p.m. and conclude by 8:30 p.m.

The Board of Education will devote the forum to listening to public comments and will not be using this occasion to respond to questions about the search or about any possible candidates for the position.  The purpose of the forum will be to gather public input on the strengths and challenges facing the Watauga County Schools and on the specific qualities and characteristics that would be most important in the next superintendent.  Consistent with state law, comments about specific personnel or students will not be allowed at the public forum.

Speakers will be allowed two minutes each and will sign up at the forum.  Speakers cannot transfer their time to other persons.

Persons who would like to offer comments but cannot speak at the forum are invited to submit written comments.  All written comments must include the name of the person who submits them.

Superintendent Dr. Marty Hemric announced in September that he will be leaving the Watauga County Schools effective December 31st to accept a position as superintendent of the Wilkes County Schools.
