Watauga Schools Closing Early on Monday; Rumor re: Obama Route

By David Rogers. October 15, 2011. BOONE -- A special weekend press release reports that all students at all Watauga County Schools (WCS) will be released early on Monday, October 17th. Pre-kindergarten to 8th grade schools will dismiss at 12:00 noon, while Watauga High School will dismiss students at 1:00 pm.

The WCS report advises that lunches will be served and buses will run regular routes, while the after-school program will open at 12:00 noon.

No explanation has been given by the WCS office for the early dismissals, but Blowing Rock News has received yet unconfirmed reports that President Obama will be travelling through the area on Monday, enroute to Wilkes County.

As unlikely as they might seem, we have not immediately dismissed these reports because such school disruptions are frequently characteristic along President Obama's travel routes, such as occurred at Lake Orion, Michigan yesterday; near Peoria, Illinois in August; and in Los Angeles, California, in September, among others.
