Blowing Rock School Visits BRAHM

Staff Report. November 22, 2011. BLOWING ROCK  – Students and teachers from Blowing Rock School has been taking full advantage of the new Blowing Rock Art and History Museum.

On Wednesday morning, students from the fourth grade walked to the Museum, located less than three blocks from the school, for a field trip. Using the Museum’s three exhibits, they completed a number of activities that complemented the grade level’s state learning standards, which includes a focus on North Carolina history. They also learned about the geology and history of the Blowing Rock, as well as the Impressionist art movement. They completed their own Impressionist piece before leaving the Museum. The group rounded out their visit with lunch in the BRAHM Education Center.

The Museum has also hosted the school’s “Young at Art” classes, the supplemental arts education outreach program for pre-kindergarten through second grade sponsored by BRAHM. The students took advantage of the waning warmer weather to walk to the museum for their classes in the education center rather than the school’s art room. Students participated in projects ranging from wax crayon/watercolor resist cornucopia paintings to creating a single square of a masterpiece, which will be assembled to create the complete work.

Other local schools are invited to take advantage of this educational resource. See the BRAHM website for teacher resources and information on how to schedule a field trip experience.
