Warren Named to All-State School Board
Staff Report. November 30, 2011. GREENSBORO, NC -- Watauga County Board of Education Vice-chair Dr. Lee Warren has been chosen by the North Carolina School Boards Association (NCSBA) as a member of the honorary All-State School Board. Just eight school Board members from among hundreds across the state are selected for this annual honor.
Warren was recognized for the achievement during the awards ceremony at the Association’s Annual Conference in Greensboro November 13-15. Warren has been a member of the Watauga Board of Education for nearly 13 years and is currently the senior member of the Board.
Board Chair Deborah Miller congratulated Dr. Warren on behalf of the Board of Education. “Dr. Warren’s award is a wonderful recognition of his long and distinguished service as a member of the Board,” said Miller. “He is a faithful advocate for our students and a valued colleague to his fellow Board members. We are very pleased to see him join the select group of local Board members who have been named to the All State School Board.”
Superintendent Dr. Marty Hemric also praised Dr. Warren’s selection. “I commend Dr. Warren on this well-deserved honor,” said Dr. Hemric. “Dr. Warren and all of our Board members contribute far more time to their roles than most people realize, and we are very fortunate to have a person like Dr. Warren who is willing to make such a strong commitment to public service.”
Warren’s first career as a teacher provided him with direct exposure to the classroom and reflects his lifelong interest in public education. In addition to serving as vice-chair of the Board of Education, he also supports the Watauga Education Foundation and is active in numerous local service organizations. As a Board member, he has participated in the key decisions that have kept the Watauga County Schools a leader among the state’s school systems, including the construction of the new, state-of-the-art Watauga High School.
All-State Board Members are selected for the honor based on having made “significant contributions to boardsmanship during their tenure on the local board of education.” Members are nominated for the honor by their peers.
The NCSBA was established in 1937 as an advocate for public school education. The organization provides information and training for school board members across the state.
