Summer Camps Slated for Future Engineers: Registration by March 9

Special Report to Blowing Rock News from University News Service. February 16, 2012. BOONE—Aspiring engineers are invited to attend a Future Engineers Camp sponsored by the N.C. Center for Engineering Technologies in Hickory. Camps will be held in June and July based on age groups for students in elementary through middle grades.

Each camp is a five-day camp that begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. The camps are led by licensed teachers who are trained by Appalachian State University and N.C. State University faculty and staff.

A variety of hands-on activities will introduce students to various engineering concepts. Campers work in groups and individually to design and create solutions to problems. The activities in this year’s camps are different than previous camps, so past campers are encouraged to return.

The cost for the camp is $300. A limited number of need-based scholarships will be given.

An online application form is available at www.nccet.appstate.edu/future-engineers-camp. The deadline to register is March 9 at 5 p.m. Completed applications will be reviewed by the selection committee and decisions will be sent to the students on March 30. If applications are received after the March 9 deadline, they will be reviewed if spaces are available.
