BLOWING ROCK -- Just 40 minutes into the 2012 Winterfest Chili Challenge, more than 600 people had already gained admission to the Blowing Rock School Gymnasium, where all the tasty sampling took place. By the event's end, Chamber of Commerce organizers Ray and Melissa Pickett estimated that more than 1,000 "hot stuff" aficionados (or wannabes) sampled the more than 50 chili recipes.  Beano and Tums were not provided.

BLOWING ROCK -- There were separate sightings of Elvis, Patsy Cline and Tchaikovsky yesterday, in Montana, Oahu and Shanghai, respectively.  They each told reporters that they were en route to Blowing Rock, North Carolina for the opening of "Groovy Nights III," at Blowing Rock Country Club on Sunday, Aug. 14 (5:30 pm); Tuesday, Aug. 16 (7:30 pm) and Friday, Aug. 19 (7:30 pm).

Groovy Nights Tuning Up for Smash Performances

BLOWING ROCK -- Last week, Kim Rogers was recruited by the Blowing Rock Fashion Show & Luncheon organizers to make sure that her sister, Pam Vines, attended Friday's very special event in benefit of Blowing Rock Hospital at the Blowing Rock Country Club because, Rogers was told, her sister was going to be named "Woman of the Year."  What she didn't  realize was that it was all a ruse, and her sister was in on it.
