About Us
Blowing Rock News was founded in July 2010 by Editor and Publisher David Rogers with a single mission: to capture the "heart" of Blowing Rock and its surrounding communities in comprehensively reporting on its life and times.
Blowing Rock News is dedicated to the memory of the late Jerry Burns, who for 44-years was editor of The Blowing Rocket, and friend and mentor to many in Blowing Rock over the years.
The seeds for David Rogers' journalism activities were planted in the 1970s, when he sold advertising and wrote for the Claremont Collegian, the six-college newspaper of the Claremont Colleges: Claremont McKenna, Pomona, Scripps, Pitzer, Harvey-Mudd, and the Claremont Graduate School. While pursuing graduate studies in business at California State University, Bakersfield, he took on the position of business manager for the university's struggling start-up newspaper, The Runner. In four months under Rogers' leadership it was transformed from a 4-page monthly tabloid (losing $500 per issue) into a 24-page weekly publication earning $2,400 per issue, with some paid staff and advertising sales personnel, which was reinvested back into the journalism department.
During his professional career in the financial services industry, Rogers has had numerous articles published in a wide array of news publications, including the Los Angeles Times, Bakersfield Californian, San Diego Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, and Chicago Tribune, and has been quoted or featured in various publications about business and investment themes, including Dallas-Morning News, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Mergers & Acquisitions, Triangle Business Journal, Denver Post, Palm Desert Sun, San Francisco Chronicle, Wall Street Journal, Investors Business Daily, Business Week, Forbes, and others.
In 2006, John Wiley & Co. (New York) published Mr. Rogers' first book, The 90% Solution: Higher Returns, Less Risk, which has been translated into five languages other than English.
