BLOWING ROCK, NC -- With Blowing Rock's first mayor looking over each speaker's shoulder, the Blowing Rock Historical Society, in conjunction with the Blowing Rock Art & History Museum, hosted a big Town party on Monday, attracting an estimated 85 residents, business owners and Town employees.

BLOWING ROCK, NC -- With a slab of ice thick enough to support what appeared to be an orange polar bear cavorting atop the surface of Chetola Lake and hundreds of Winterfest revelers lining the lake shore, the 2014 edition of the Winterfest "Polar Plunge" got off to a raucous, record-setting start Saturday morning at Chetola Mountain Resort in Blowing Rock.

BOONE, NC --  Now celebrating its 50th anniversary, the Daniel Boone Native Gardens will host “Fairy Day in the Gardens,” on Saturday, July 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The free event features activities for children and families. BOONE, NC -- With thought-provoking, often personal messages laid bare for the judges, there were no "losers" in Wednesday evening's 2nd Annual Dorgan Oratory Contest, but senior pscyhology major and Chapel Hill native Rebecca Burwell walked away with top honors and a $250 cash award for her original oration, "The Power of Intentional Conversation."
