With mostly sunny skies and 54 degrees (F) in the forecast for Saturday, scores (if not hundreds) of avid trout fishing enthusiasts are expected for "opening day" of trout season -- and a bunch of them will register their fish for a chance at winning valuable prizes, courtesy of the 34th annual Blowing Rock Trout Derby and the event's sponsors.

BOONE, NC -- Proving that lots of gray hair, thick glasses, strange wigs, and an octagenarian pom-pom squad CAN make all the difference, a team of scholars from Appalachian Brian Estates emerged victorious after 31 rounds of the 2013 edition of Adult Spelling Bee, produced annually by the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce in benefit of education initiatives.

BLOWING ROCK -- Perhaps it is a "sign," a foreshadowing of gloom and doom for the Baltimore Ravens in next week's Super Bowl that "Frisco," owned by Steve and Pat Maynard of Blowing Rock, won the "Judges Pick" nod as "Best in Show", Sunday, in the 5th Annual Winter Paws Dog Show.

Could she have had something to do with his death?
