Signs of Tonight's "Americana" Symphony; Growing Anticipation
Vendors and caterers of all descriptions were scurrying about the grounds of Chetola Mountain Resort & Spa today, getting ready for what is expected to be a record crowd for the Symphony By The Lake event.
Now in its 24th year, the popular -- make that "much anticipated" -- music concert for the second year in a row features the sounds of Symphony of the Mountains, of Kingsport, TN.
Admission is $26 for adults; $10 for children under 12 years of age.
Declared one member of the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce, which hosts the music and fireworks spectacular, "Last year, Symphony of the Mountains hit a home run with a great programme. This one, with a mixture of pop, classical, and patriotic themes promises to be a grand slam. They are marvelous, and you can't ask for a more beautiful setting."
While the concert itself is slated to start around 7:30 pm tonight, people start gathering to capture their favorite seats at least two hours before. The gates to Chetola open at 5:30 pm.
Parking inside Chetola is not permitted for this event. Parking is available at the Food Lion shopping center, where an air-conditioned shuttle picks people up and drops them off at Chetola's front gate. In addition, parking is also available at Tanger Shoppes on the Parkway (with entry through Chetola's "back gate".
Hot air balloon rides are available, at a reasonable $15 charge.
As for the music, the opening act is local band favorite, The Harris Brothers. After the Symphony plays, there will be the usual fireworks display.
Seating on the lawn is on a first come, first served basis. So bring a favorite lawn chair or picnic blanket. Bring a picnic, as well as your favorite beverages. Not bringing your own? Then there will be plenty of food and refreshment options available for purchase. Come and enjoy the fun!
