Blevins, Powell Lead ASU to Win Over Davidson, SoCon Title; Tourney Awaits

February 19, 2012.  BOONE -- Appalachian State University wrestling concluded its regular season with a 39-10 defeat of Davidson at Varsity Gymnasium on Sunday. With the win, the Mountaineers completed a perfect 6-0 Southern Conference slate, finalizing their 2011-12 SoCon Wrestling Championship.

BOONE – It was Senior Day for Appalachian State Men's Basketball, and all four seniors started.  In the last home game of their collegiate careers, forwards Omar Carter and Isaac Butts lit up the Holmes Center with strong shooting and rebounding performances on Saturday as Appalachian State outlasted Winthrop University, 76-64, in front of 1,590 mostly Mountaineer fans. ASU Football Adds NFL, Ole Miss Pedigrees to Coaching Staff

Special Report to Blowing Rock News from GoASU. February 17, 2012. BOONE — Appalachian State University football head coach Jerry Moore announced on Thursday that Dwayne Ledford and Bryan Brown have officially joined the ASU staff as assistant coaches. Ledford will serve as Appalachian’s offensive line coach and Brown will be an assistant coach on the defensive side of the ball. Specific defensive coaching assignments will be designated in the coming weeks.

BOONE -- Mike Neal scored a career-high 23 points and Isaac Butts pulled down a season-high 16 rebounds to lead Appalachian State University men's basketball to a convincing 79-70 victory over Southern Conference North Division rival Chattanooga on Wednesday evening at the Holmes Center.

BOONE -- Freshman forward Maryah Sydnor poured in a game-high 19 points, while junior forward Anna Freeman posted one of the season's most impressive stat lines (13 points, five rebounds, four assists, four blocks and five steals), as Appalachian State women's basketball ran away from Elon on Monday night, 84-68, at the Holmes Convocation Center in front of 321 fans.

By David Rogers. February 11, 2012. BOONE -- Appalachian State jumped out to an 11-2 lead just four minutes into the game and never looked back in thumping UNC-Greensboro, 79-60, before the biggest crowd (952) of the year at the Holmes Convocation Center on Saturday.

FLASH ALERT: Wofford (M) 66, Appalachian State 64

BOONE -- Down by as much as 15 points with 14 minutes to play, Appalachian erased a ten-point deficit in the last six minutes to pull within one, but it was not quite enough as the Mountaineers fell to the Wofford Terriers, 66-64, in front of 2,077 at the Holmes Convocation Center.

Mountaineer Softball Drops Season-Opener, 8-4

Elon Men Earn Season Split, 82-59

ELON, NC - Appalachian State University men’s basketball regained its shooting touch but was unable to overcome first-place Elon’s solid rebounding advantage and a 17-8 turnover margin in an 82-59 loss on Monday night at Alumni Gym. The loss snapped a string of seven-straight victories over the Phoenix and marked a split in the regular-season series with the division rival.
