Blowing Rock's Crouch Sets Meet Record in 5,000 Meters at Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, NC -- Eight seconds doesn't  seem like a long time unless you are riding a bucking bronco in the rodeo -- or crossing the finish line eight seconds ahead of your nearest competition in a 5,000 meter run.  That was the margin of victory for Blowing Rock and ZAP Fitness' Sarah Crouch on Friday, in the elite division of the Adidas Raleigh Relays' 5K, at North Carolina State's Paul H. Derr Track.

Crouch finished in a time of 15:58.36, the only woman to break the 16 minute barrier among the 50 athletes participating from both elite club teams and NCAA Division I colleges and universities. Crouch

Blowing Rock resident and fellow ZAP athlete Tyler Pennel finished just over four seconds behind the Men's 5,000 winner, posting a time of 13:45.63, vs. a 13:40.96 by Saucony elite club athlete Jeff See.

In the Men's 1500 Meters elite section, Cameron Bean of ZAP Fitness finished 4th, in a time of 3:47.09, less than four seconds behind first place finisher Rich Peters of Boston University.
